Tonight’s Family Prayer Time

I haven’t always prayed with my kids regularly at bedtime, and tonight when we did I thought to myself, “Why don’t I do this more?” I witnessed my 6 year old praying in the Spirit this evening, and it revealed to me how God moves through the generations.

I’ll tell you what happened..

Tomorrow morning I am going to speak with a leasing agent at an apartment to try and get us out of this shelter! Praise God! Well.. my middle child asked if we could pray about it. I was surprised she asked because it’s not often that she takes the lead with asking to pray.

Before we prayed, I shared a story with them that one of the pastors in my church shared with the congregation. (video below) A story in the Bible that speaks beautifully about faith. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are three men in the Bible who have a double-fisted faith. In one fist they believed that God can and He will.. And in the other fist, even if He doesn’t, they still trust Him.

And with that being said,

We prayed together..

My youngest is six, and she went first. She closed her eyes and began praying for things I never expected to come from her mouth. It was almost as if she believed exactly what I said, and she was going to pray in full belief that God can and He will, and even if He doesn’t we still trust Him.

She prayed for us to get a new place tomorrow, and then she prayed for the homeless community right after. She prayed for those who are sleeping in the streets and are without shelter. She prayed for the people who live in the shelter we are currently staying in. She thanked God for the shelter we currently have. She prayed that “everyone in the world would know love from God.  Even the bad guys who – love the devil – would know love from God.”

I couldn’t believe that my daughter was speaking to the Lord in such an intimate way. She really spoke from her heart, and it humbled me. It showed me that God is faithful through the generations. It was a beautiful display of child-like faith. It was such a simple prayer, but also so powerful.

Could you imagine if we all loved one another like that? Even our enemies, we pray for them to know God’s love. To have child-like faith…

God continues to reveal Himself to me, and I am excited to see where He is leading me and my daughters. All I know is that I am going to pray with the same child-like faith – knowing God can and He will, and that even if God doesn’t, I still trust Him.
